The official sources serve different populations. TDCJ does not cover a person who only spent time in Matagorda County Jail. The DPS registry is not a general inmate database. Verify Matagorda Mugshot Context
Read three records together when the result matters. The booking record links the photograph to a jail event. The court docket and signed order explain the charge and legal outcome. The booking-out or incarceration record gives the physical release date, type, and any transfer destination. None of those roles should be assigned to a picture.
If the person served a Texas state sentence, the TDCJ offender search and separate state IVSS may show an official image and status data. Those tools concern TDCJ custody and supervision, not a county-only bond release. For the limited group legally required to register, the Texas DPS public registry may show identity and photo data. Registry presence does not establish the date or manner of release.

A county alert or TDCJ notice can support a timeline. It cannot replace the originating record. Likewise, a current-roster no-result can mean release, transfer, a search mismatch, or a display change.
When the booking record says transfer, follow the named receiving system. A TDCJ commitment is not release. A federal pickup may require the court docket, BOP locator, or U.S. Marshals records route. Possible immigration detention should be checked through ICE's current locator, which is not a historical release archive. The old county mugshot remains tied to the Matagorda booking even when custody continues under another authority.
Matagorda Mugshots After Expunction
Texas reorganized expunction law into Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A effective January 1, 2025. Older material focused on former Chapter 55 may now cite obsolete numbering. Release, dismissal, sealing, and expunction are separate events. A person is not entitled to expunction merely because jail custody ended, and eligibility depends on the full case history and current statutory rules.
A final expunction order can govern destruction, deletion, return, or confidential handling by covered agencies. The order's scope matters.
